Tuck & Tales — Terms of Service

Effective date: 2026-08-25 (draft — see “Status” below).

These terms cover your use of Tuck & Tales. They are written to be read, not to be survived, and they are deliberately short: this product does one thing, and most of what a parent actually wants to know about it is a privacy question, answered in the Privacy one-pager and in full in the Data Policy. Where these terms and those documents touch the same subject, they must agree — if they appear not to, that is a bug in this document.

Status

This document has not received legal review. Like the data policy, it was written alongside the code it describes and is accurate about what the software does, but it is not a substitute for a lawyer reading it before Tuck & Tales takes a payment or opens to the public. Publishing it in this state is a deliberate choice to say something true and incomplete rather than something polished and unexamined.

1. Who may use Tuck & Tales

You must be an adult, and the parent or legal guardian of any child whose name or profile you add. A child never gets an account, a login, or credentials of their own — see the Data Policy §6.

2. Your voice, and your permission to use it

Tuck & Tales works by rendering stories in a recording of your own voice.

• You may only enroll your own voice. Recording happens live in the app; there is no upload path, precisely so that a voice cannot be enrolled by someone who is not present to consent.
• You give that permission out loud, in the recording itself. A spoken consent line is part of the enrollment, and it is checked before any voice profile is derived.
• You keep control of it. You can delete a voice profile at any time, and deletion is a real, tracked, recorded operation — not a hidden flag. Unused voice profiles are deleted automatically after twelve months, with a warning a month beforehand.

Attempting to enroll a voice that is not yours — including that of a family member who is absent, unable to consent, or has died — is a misuse of this service, and the product is built to make it structurally difficult rather than merely forbidden.

3. What you may do with the stories

Stories rendered for you are for your household’s private listening. You may keep them, play them offline, and re-listen as often as you like.

You may not redistribute, publish, broadcast, or sell rendered audio, or use it to represent that anyone said something they did not say. Every rendered story carries an inaudible watermark from the underlying voice model; we have confirmed it survives our own production pipeline intact.

4. The story content itself

The stories are ours (or licensed to us) and are not yours to republish. The audio rendered in your voice is yours to keep and listen to under §3.

Story text is versioned content, and stories may be revised or withdrawn. Audio already rendered and downloaded to your device is unaffected by a later revision.

5. Availability, and honest limits

Tuck & Tales renders audio on hardware we own and operate, which is not running twenty-four hours a day. This has consequences we would rather state than have you discover:

• Rendering can queue. When the rendering hardware is off, new stories wait. The app tells you when to expect them rather than pretending otherwise.
• A deletion request may finish later. If the rendering hardware is offline when you ask, the cloud half completes immediately and the rest completes when it is next online. The app says “in progress” and means it.
• Playback does not depend on any of this. A story already downloaded to your device plays with no network at all.

We do not promise a service level, an uptime figure, or a rendering time. We promise to tell you the truth about where a story is.

6. Payment

Tuck & Tales is not currently taking payments and no price is set. When that changes, these terms will be updated to describe the billing arrangement before any charge is made, and the change will be notified rather than silently deployed.

7. Ending it

You may close your account at any time. Doing so starts a purge of your data which completes within thirty days; what is retained after that, and why, is listed in the Data Policy §9.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to enroll a voice without its owner’s consent, or to redistribute rendered audio in breach of §3.

8. Liability, plainly

Tuck & Tales is provided as it is. We do not warrant that rendering will always be available, that a rendered story will sound the way you hoped, or that the service is fit for any purpose beyond the one described here. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer protection law, and nothing here excludes liability for fraud or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Changes to these terms

We will post a revised effective date at the top of this document and notify account holders of material changes. A change that affects what we do with your voice or your child’s data is, by definition, material.
